Sugar question

Throughot my withdrawal I've had the cleanest healthiest diet ever! But in the last couple of days I caved in and had sugar (one cake slice each day). The first day I had a mild headache within about 40 mins while the second day I felt fatigue/weakness after about half an hour. Today I feel awful mentally with some symptoms that had disappeared a while back....

Is it possible that today I am still feeling the effects of what I ate yesterday or is it just coincidence and a normal fluctuation in withdrawal? I am so scared about these symptoms making a comeback How bad did I mess up?

Re: Sugar question

A sugar crash can cause anxiety for me, I notice it more in w/d. I had a can of coke one day and had an anxious afternoon. WE're sensitive right now, that's all. You probably upset your balance. Even while not in w/d I started a fantastic diet of lean protein and healthy fats and fibre....when I "cheated" I felt like crap for a few days, and it even brought on carb cravings again. It should pass once you get back on the wagon.

Re: Sugar question

For me, refined sugars cause queazy stomach, fatigue and mild depression. Needless to say, I no longer eat refined sugars.

However, I have no problem with natural sweetners... :-)

Re: Sugar question

I've been off all refined sugar for months now. Refined sugar actually causes major withdrawal when you take it away (I've done it more than once). Its like a drug as well. So when I eat something with sugar now that I've been off, I also feel very sick, sluggish, headaches, sometimes anxious with racy thoughts. Its a drug too!!

Re: Sugar question

hmmm.. refined sugars are never good for you, but sometimes delicious.

I'm going to go out on a limb and perhaps disagree to a certain extent with others here.

I think your sugar craving is actually a sign of healing as it's 'pleasure seeking' behaviour.

if it makes you feel worse, don't do it. BUT, I wanted to chime in to let you know that 'pleasure seeking behaviour' is a great sign.

This is an interesting perspective. When I've had bad withdrawal symptoms, I don't desire anything sweet at all (which is weird for me). But when I've felt better, my cravings for sweets returns. So you might be on to something, iwantpeace. Of course I agree though that if it makes you feel worse, then avoid sugar. But maybe this is a good sign, Miriza!

Re: Sugar question

I was feeling a lot better last week, then I pigged out on some chocolate brownie cheese cake last night and today I feel anxious again. You could be on to something.

Actually, this thread reminds me that in some ways the withdrawal process could be a blessing in disguise, as it's forcing us to live healthier lives, etc. I know I'm exercising more since this all started!
