Hello all. Newbie here.

I'm glad to have found this site for Paxil withdrawl. I'm a 54 year old retired single male from Long Beach, Ca. I've been on 40mg of Paxil for approximately 13 years. I was up to 60mg about 5 years ago while grieving over my fathers death, but have been back down to 40mg for the past 4 years. I feel this is the perfect time to withdrawl because I am no longer working.

I was prescribed Paxil because I was experiencing agitation, crankiness at work, and generally just being anxious and impatient.

Like most people here, I've tried to quit Paxil without success. Two weeks ago, I reduced my dose from 40 to 20. I know, not good. My only side effects were fatigue, crazy dreams, slight headaches, dizziness. I have since upped my dose to 30mg and still have the same side effects, but they are tolerable to me so far.

My plan is to stay on 30mg and slowly taper off 10% every month as this site suggests. Also, Is it a good idea to start this process by myself as I am single and living alone.

Thanks, Steve

Re: Hello all. Newbie here.

Welcome, Steve!

It's fine to start this process alone, that's the point of the 10% reduction, so you can maintain quality of life and function. We'll be here to encourage you every step of the way, so you won't be alone

I can tell you from personal experience, there is NO COMPARISON to stopping abruptly and tapering slowly. You'll be just fine!

Just make sure you're stable enough on the 30 mgs to start your taper. I don't know how long you've been at that dose, but stay there for a few weeks, just to make sure.

Thanks for the fast welcome! I have been on 30mg for only 5 days. My plan is to stay there until I'm stable.

Re: Hello all. Newbie here.

Welcome to PP ... sounds like a good plan to hold at 30 a bit before you start tapering. And it's perfectly fine to do it alone, and maybe in some ways better as withdrawal can be a strain on a relationship. You've come to the right place for support and advice.

Good plan. You will learn that you can't go to slow when it comes to weaning. Welcome to paxilprogress!

Re: Hello all. Newbie here.

Another welcome, Steve, and can't second what everyone's already said enough. I've been at this for nearly 2 years, another year or so to go, but you CAN have quality of life while you taper, even from a big dose, and THIS is the place to do it
