W/D from 10% drops?

I've been reading how people can feel even 10% drops and I'm wondering if it's possible that this could be due to the placebo effect? I.e. you expect to feel worse, so you do? Or you're anxiously anticipating what might happen when you drop, which actually creates the anxiety that people interpret as withdrawal?

It just seems amazing that such a small drop can have such a big impact!

Re: W/D from 10% drops?

I said the same thing to my husband one day. I said, if you could see the miniscule little crumb I cut out of my dose, I can't believe I can feel that. His answer? "Well... I tried acid in highschool and the dose was a dot of paper the size of a ball point pen tip. I was completely #ucked for 8 hours straight and laid out for the whole day afterward."

2005-2010 Effexor XR 112.5mg-262.5mg for PPD
June-Dec 2010 Poop-out (crash)
3 month cross taper off Effexor onto 40mg Cipralex, switched to 20mg Celexa, switched to 20mg Paxil
Nothing helped except waiting 7 months to stabilize on Paxil then starting to taper:
Oct'11 to Nov '12 20mg-10mg
March'13 to Feb'14 9mg -4mg
Feb 7/14-4.0mg
April 1/14-3.6mg

Yes is the answer to both scenarios. I tapered in 10% drops, but still had w/d symptoms with some of those drops. All relatively mild and short lived and nothing that affected my quality of life.

And yes, we see all too often here folks "expecting" something and the power of suggestion is very powerful, indeed. This is why I tell folks to step away from the Internet, including this site, while tapering. I did it the whole time I tapered, so as not to be influenced by anything I read here. I think that's a very important step in the tapering process.

My point being that it's not unrealistic to feel something after a 10% drop in dosage of a potent drug....or rather my husbands point, lol.

Re: W/D from 10% drops?

Maybe I'm just lucky but I am finding that sneaking up on the 10% by dropping 2.5% a week for four weeks then holding another two weeks before doing it again has given me minimal w/d symptoms.

Re: W/D from 10% drops?

Personally, I can only do 5% drops. I have always been sensitive to meds, and the 10% drops are more than I can handle.

Well I suppose it makes sense when you consider the size of the neurons, which the drug molecules are interacting with.

Re: W/D from 10% drops?

I have tried it both ways and I have to say that the 10 percent is the best, there is still feeling some WD but not to the extent to 50 percent drops, not even close.

Also possibly reading all the positive results from the 10 percent method has improved my withdrawal experience? Who knows, all I know is the 10 percent method is working quite well for me. And I could not be happier with it.

Re: W/D from 10% drops?

My experience: I dropped down about 75% of my dosage over about 4 months. I was irritable, but managed through it.

Now that I was down to that small dose, when I dropped 10% whoa! it was too much.

I simply was too irritable, I had to go back up and do more manageable, 5% drops.

I want to get off this stuff, but even more than that, I want to do it with the least amount of discomfort.

To be honest, I underestimated how powerful this medicine is!
