went back to doctors

Went back to doctors after still suffering from coming of seroxat 10mg 64 days ago roughly. He told me to stop originaly for two days from 10mg and then start Zoloft 50mg it didnt work after sticking it for 22 days so stopped it.So now havent taken any antidepressants for 42 days still feel terrible which i no now i should have cut down gradualy the seroxat rather than stopping from 10 mg after finding this site.Doctor wants me to start amitriptyline but think maybe i should reinstate seroxat stabalise for a few months then wean when i want to stop it eventualy.Any ideas or advice??

Go back to the hair of the dog that bit you. Get back on Paxil (seroxat) get stable, then taper slowly when you're ready.

amitriptyline (Elavil) is pure EVIL! See the review in askapatient.com.

Re: went back to doctors

Hi so if i went back on seroxat and then say six months try again and taper for a year will it realy be that much easier??? because these affects ive had Chronic insomnia etc im sure are related from stopping to quick?? If i chose the amitriptyline route could it be possible that it would help me get of seroxat after being off already 60 days is it possible to do it this way to?? isnt it possible to change meds to help withdrawal?? thankyou for your time??

Again, stick with one drug. Switching is only going to make bad matters worse. The purpose of a slow taper is so you don't go through what you're going through now.

Re: went back to doctors

hi Laurie thankyou just wondered about amitriptyline because havent taken any tablets at all for 44 days and thought maybe it was an option rather than go back on seroxat because i know its easier to get of eventualy the amitriptyline when you need to. has anyone stopped seroxat 10mg and stayed stopped ??

Re: went back to doctors

Sure, lots of people have just stopped and for some, they're fine. For others, it's a very long road. If you're feeling that bad, just get back on Paxil and get stable. No other drug is going to cover Paxil withdrawal, as you found out. You then have to deal not only with Paxil w/d, but the side effects of the new drug.

This is 100% true. So if your suffering comes from paxil WD;..no drug will help you other then getting back or sticking it out

Lessons learned the hard way Julie ann hahaha. Damned i still remember to think that after my cold turkey from paxil, lexapro would help. After that i thought perhaps alprozalam or oxazepam would soften the WD.
No such thing

Re: went back to doctors

I agree! Do NOT introduce another drug, nothing will help with seraxoset wd but seraxocet. Get on a small dose, stabilize and then slowly taper. Trust the veterins and all these people who took another AD to combat wd of another. It only makes matters much worse than they are!
Good luck we're all here to support you.

Yes it's all true. I've been there. I tried 3 different SSRI's after Effexor and it didn't make me feel better. I was suffering extreme anxiety and akasthesia, chills, shaking, cramps, I didn't start feeling better until I stopped switching meds and messing with my dose...after that it took about 6 months to begin to feel normal and now I'm still stuck trying to get off Paxil which I probably didn't even need, my well-meaning but uninformed Dr was trying to help me by finding a med to combat w/d but it either did nothing or maybe even made things worse for awhile. I feel better now but it's been 14 months.

2005-2010 Effexor XR 112.5mg-262.5mg for PPD
June-Dec 2010 Poop-out (crash)
3 month cross taper off Effexor onto 40mg Cipralex, switched to 20mg Celexa, switched to 20mg Paxil
Nothing helped except waiting 7 months to stabilize on Paxil then starting to taper:
Oct'11 to Nov '12 20mg-10mg
March'13 to Feb'14 9mg -4mg
Feb 7/14-4.0mg
April 1/14-3.6mg

that is one thing i am so grateful for - the docs never increased my dose or switched drugs with me - when poop out happened three years ago.
