Am I still experiencing withdrawl after 4 weeks on the same dose?

Hey everyone, Ive really got to stop being such a reassurance junkie!!! but Paxil withdrawl is new too me so im endulging again!

I have been doing ok, tapered too fast from 20mg too 13mg but seemed to stabilize after 2 weeks, forgot dose for 2 days which felt awful but I was stabilizing quite nicely again, looking forward too my weekend off then wham! woke up feeling like I had major heart surgery scheduled for the afternoon! nervous, really worried and panicky. It instantly made me wonder what I could be so worried about?? but there really is nothing I can put my finger on. Can withdrawl still be effecting me even after being on 13mg for 4 weeks? Its confusing as im not sure if its withdrawl or under lying anxiety about something going on in my life??

Either way i really dont want to increase my dose again, shall i carry on tapering even if i feel like this or hold fire on 13mg until i feel better? Ive applied what i learned in CBt to any potential worries i have, but there is nothing going on that i would consider to be one of my usual 'triggers'.

Thanks in advance again guys!

Re: Am I still experiencing withdrawl after 4 weeks on the same dose?

You dropped too fast from 16mg to 12mg. The 10% is from 16mg to 14.6mg. I went slower and i found it easier to drop to 15mg and went just over the 10%. I dropped 1mg every four weeks until i got to 10mg. then went much slower.
Just re-read your signature. You are dropping every week??
You cant do that without feeling rubbish. well most people cant anyway.
Have you read the 10% rule every 3-6 weeks?
No wonder you feel rubbish!
Have you thought about going up to say 16mg stabilising for four weeks then doing it the proper way?
Please listen to the 10% rule. It seems to be the only thig thay works x

Re: Am I still experiencing withdrawl after 4 weeks on the same dose?

Hey Julieann,

I did drop too fast your right, it caught up with me and ive been really anxious/full of worry over the past few weeks. Having said that i felt like i was stabilizing and through the worst over the last 10 days until 2 days ago?? is it common to go up and down like this? Im not keen on going up to 16 mg again as im confident I can stabilize on this amount. Is there a rule of thumb as to how long it takes your body to get used to a lower dose as I fely ok after 2 weeks but rough again!

Thanks again tho Julie Ann, ill def be proceeding my taper on the 10% rule after this, ill just be a bit gutted too have to increase my dose again after feeling ok last week!!

If you're decreasing weekly, that is way to fast, and missing 2 doses is another big contributor.

Re: Am I still experiencing withdrawl after 4 weeks on the same dose?

Hey Scotty,

Ive been on 13mg for about 4-5 weeks now though, so i was quite sure i would stabilize by now!! the missed doses def effected me and knocked me back, but that was 2 weeks ago? This bout of anxiety has surprised me and knocked my confidence a bit as I thought I was through the worst of it and kind of looking forward to tapering a further 10%! hopefully its just a blip and ill be back on track soon. It just makes me question whether im actually ready or not too be withdrawing in the first place! Im sure I dont need the meds tho, ive coped 25 years without them till 19 months ago!!!

Re: Am I still experiencing withdrawl after 4 weeks on the same dose?

Hi. I have read that it takes your brain a while to catch up. So, you are probably feeling the drop from 20 to 13 mg now. It can take up to two months for withdrawal to catch up with your brain. If you can tolerate it you could stay on 13 mg, but if it is too much you may want to go up a little to 14 mg, as that may be all it would take. Only you know what you can tolerate. I hope you start to feel better soon!!!!

Re: Am I still experiencing withdrawl after 4 weeks on the same dose?

Thanks Chris'gal, your right im pretty certain im still adjusting to the lower dose, it was a big drop and ive got to expect some bad periods/days. Im really determined to stick on this level. I find it amazing that no matter how I think im prepared for anixiety and ive got it sussed I quickly slip into the same irrational fears and ways of thinking, what if i dont get better? what if i get worse? what if im not ready to come off? what if im doing something wrong? Its my inner moron, he's annoying. Im gonna soldier on at 13mg, accept that I may feel crap on some days, but thats all it is, feelings that will pass, I know im doing the right thing coming off this drug, even if I do still have underlying anxiety I would prefer to know that its due to a problem in my life which i can reslove, rather than side effects from a drug! onwards and upwards!

Re: Am I still experiencing withdrawl after 4 weeks on the same dose?

I've been burned so badly by a fast "taper" that now that I'm weaning from Paxil, I'm going ridiculously slow. I'm giving myself 2 months between drops. So from where I stand, you have gone too fast and the anxiety you feel is just from that, no big deal or underlying life crisis, lol. I do the same thing, why am I anxious why am I anxious what happened, what's bothering me....aaarrrrgh!!!! Sometimes it's just chemical, as hard as it is to believe! (and for me it's hard)

Nothing helped except waiting 7 months to stabilize on Paxil then starting to taper:

Even those who are tapering super slow, experience anxiety. I dont know how severe yours is, only you know that.

But yes try to slow down and never skip any dose. By the way, alcohol is a NO.

Hope you stabilize soon.

jeff,

i cannot stress enough the 10% taper every 3-6 weeks. the mild symptoms that you experience doing this are nothing to what you are feeling at the moment.

hope that you feel better soon xx

Don't fall into the "omg, this is me forever" trap. Yes, some drops can take weeks to be felt, and with the rapid weaning you're doing they are cumulative. So slow down, take a deep breath and you're going to be fine.

Re: Am I still experiencing withdrawl after 4 weeks on the same dose?

Jeffro,

i'm tapering slow and there were some drops where i could drop again after 4 weeks but the most drops it took me longer even up to 6 or even 8 weeks.
The effects of the drops for me mostly start 1 to 2 weeks into a taper and usually last for about 1 week or linger longer. What i want to say is that in my opinion its completely normal that you still feel symptoms after 4 weeks and nothing to worry about. (i know its hard :-))

Also you'll notice that every drop can be different and that you can't expect consistency in WD. There are drops even in a slow taper that can make you think this is forever but it allways lifts.

hope you will feel better soon!!

Re: Am I still experiencing withdrawl after 4 weeks on the same dose?

My experience is that I thought I could tough it out, but I couldn't.

In retrospect, why on earth did I *want* to 'tough it out'?!?

I just turned into a crabby jerk nobody wanted to be around. That's not worth whatever satisfaction I got for getting off of effexor quickly.

I did a 10% taper a few weeks ago, became irritable, so I added 5% and hey , what do you know, I was fine!

So I stabilized, did another 5% drop a few weeks later, and had very mild symptoms.

I like mild symptoms much better than counting every second and hoping that the next one I'll feel a bit better, or the next hour, or next morning.

At a small drop, I can just live my life without having it totally messed up by w/d.

I don't know why I wanted to do anything else.

Just my experience. Best of luck to you!
