Re: Journal of Junior's Journey

Thanks Rose. I first read the email at 7.30am and, after a poor night's sleep was back in bed by 8am after my son was picked up to go to his day placement. But I couldn't sleep because I was too excited! LOL!

I couldn't close my mouth either. It was just open and I kept thinking, OMG, OMG, OMG.......

Re: Journal of Junior's Journey

I have some other good news. During a sleepless night -thanks to the smoke detector just outside our bedroom bipping at 2am - I had an aha moment . My recent problems with an unusually active brain, together with the jittery nerves, could be due to a supplement I was put on recently. It's designed to control my insulin resistance and hopefully help with my rising blood pressure. Anyhow, I did some research and lo and behold, it contains 3 B Group Vitamins. Many people find that Vit B ramps up anxiety during w/d. It's the only change in my naturopathic regime so it appears to be the culprit.

I was taking it 3 times a day, with meals. I haven't taken any today and I feel calmer already. Shame, because in terms of the late afternoon hunger than goes with being insulin resistant, it was working.

Re: Journal of Junior's Journey

Congratulations on the book offer! That is brilliant news! And thanks for the tip on B vitamins - think I will cut mine out for a few days and see if it makes a difference.

Re: Journal of Junior's Journey

Thanks Caperjackie. I'm still getting my head around it but I am thrilled. I've wanted to do this for a long time. I finished writing the book, I think, in 2005 so it has taken a while. They want to create a website to help sell the book, among other things. I'll have to let everyone know the link when it is ready!!

Re: the vitamin B. I've heard a number of people say they couldn't tolerate it during w/d. This forum is great for sharing info!

Re: Journal of Junior's Journey

Good news on the sleep front. I slept better last night after stopping the GlucoBalance. I went off to sleep with no problems at all. Amazing. Esp after the excitement of receiving my book publishing offer! I still woke 3-4 times and again at 6.15, which seems to be a habit now as that is when hubby leaves for work, but overall, a much better night's sleep.

The jittery nerves I was experiencing are settling too. It's amazing how much difference one supplement can make. Esp one that was NOT designed to assist withdrawal!

Just as well really since I have forms to fill out for my lap band surgery, an assignment to print out for my Counselling Certificate (I can now send off all 4 for the unit), a contract with two different options to consider, and some normal household stuff such as booking my car in for a service to attend to!! Busy busy busy!!

Re: Journal of Junior's Journey

My what a difference 10 days makes!

Sleep is back to 'normal'. Normal for me that is. Which means taking an hour or more to fall asleep, waking about twice during the night (I usually just look at the clock then roll over and go back to sleep... lol), then waking @6am. It's not enough and I often go back to bed after getting my son off to his Day Program. He is picked up @7.45am.

No book contract to worry about. Phew!

No study to do at the moment. Waiting on the results of my assignments. I have all the stuff and could continue but I'm choosing not to.

And yesterday I began my pre-lap band surgery optifast diet. A shake for breakfast. A berry bar - much like a muesli bar but not as nice - for lunch. Some diet jelly late in the afternoon as I was hungry. Then chicken soup (optifast) and a cup of salad for dinner. I've never enjoyed salad so much!!

I also did a drop a few days ago but have not felt effects as yet. I figured that this optifast thing would change my metabolism anyway so what the heck? Do a drop and cope with it!

My surgery is on Friday 25 November. I have to stay on the optifast diet until then, then a liquid diet for a week, mushies for a week, then back to solids after that. Obviously I will be eating much smaller amounts when I get to that point. I also need to have monthly follow ups with the surgeon to determine whether the band needs adjusting (they put fluid in to 'tighten' it - or take some out if it is too tight).

I am now on two journeys: one to get off Paxil, and one to lose (hopefully) a lot of weight My ideal would be to lose 45-49 kgs and fit back into the size 12 dress I wore when I was matron of honour at my sister's wedding in March 1998 (before I went back on Paxil ). However, I would settle for being a size 14

Re: Journal of Junior's Journey

I wish you all the best Junior and hope it all goes well! Was the cup of salad actually salad or did you drink it???

I see a lot of posts about weight gain with aropax. I just thought it was mid life crisis. I was 40 (mid life) when I went on aropax and went from size 10/12 up to a size 16 and was heading for size 18 when I decided to watch my weight!

Is it just the tablet makes you put on weight or does it make you eat more which resuslts in the weight gain? I hadn't actually noticed either way.

Re: Journal of Junior's Journey

Nahh...I got to eat the salad. I am allowed two cups of certain salad or vegie items per day. It is soooooo nice to actually EAT something as I LOVE the sensation of chewing /eating :-/

I can't say whether it's the tablet or the hunger it creates. For me I think it creates a higher degree of hunger but it doesn't seem to be a major problem at the 20mg dose. More so at 30 and esp 40mg. I am also insulin resistant (pre diabetic) and with it goes being hungry later in the day. That is my hardest time even on this diet.

Re: Journal of Junior's Journey

So does my father

Was thinking while vaccuming just now and worked out that after going back on Paxil in May /June 1998 until I did the Ultra Lite diet under a naturopath in @March / April 2002 - about 4 years - I gained 32 kg

I remember hubby saying at the time that he'd noticed I wasn't doing anything different and that I was eating good, healthy foods so I shouldn't have been gaining the weight. I was told by my naturopath then that I have an intolerance to wheat and put it down to that but when I think about it now, I don't see how that could have caused a 32kg weight gain. Some of it for sure, but not all of it.

I lost 15kg in 10 weeks on that diet but gradually put it back on. With high interest And really, during the years I was at uni that should NOT have happened. Monash Uni, Clayton is a HUGE campus and I was doing a lot of walking and going up and down stairs. I was also raising a young son with autism and adhd although I paid someone to do my cleaning for me. Yet I kept gaining .....

Anyway, the good news is that I weighed myself this morning - after only 3 days on the pre-op diet, and according to my scales - which I didn't want to believe (weighed myself 4 times ...lol) - I've lost 3kg already

Re: Journal of Junior's Journey

AAAAAAArrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Sometimes I just hate withdrawal

I've had a busy week and ... because I'm not in a paid job, there's no rhythm. Every day is different and my tasks for the day are different (lists help..lol) but it has been mental lately and I've got another challenging week coming up.

I chose not to go to watch my son training in softball (with special olympics) this morning because I am tired and need to rest. I have an appt Monday, plus I need to do some grocery shopping. Have another appt Tues and will need to clean the house. Wed brings a naturopathic appt plus we are going to a Moody Blues concernt in the evening. Thurs I will need to do a full grocery shop and take Jason to karate that evening. Friday morning I am in hospital for my lap-band surgery. Whoa...... my head is spinning just thinking about it.

Anyway, my point is that my nervous system is NOT happy with all these goings on and my sleep quality has been poor. I already take a Valerian forte at night, when needed, and have taken one every night for the past few days. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....

Withdrawal sucks *grump*

On a brighter note, I have lost 6kg on the pre-op Optifast diet. In a week

Re: Journal of Junior's Journey

Ok so I lied. I misread my scales. I ended up losing 4.5kg before my surgery, not that I've got any issue with that!

Sadly the Optifast diet played havoc with my nervous system and sleep. I thought it might and was prepared to stick it out but I got fed up with taking 2 hours+ to fall asleep and waking several times before 5.30am. So I stopped it and slept much better over the last two nights before banding.

I am typing this from in hospital! Had my surgery yesterday and I am now officially Lap-Banded. I'm bit tired from a broken night's sleep and sore where I think the band is but otherwise well. My surgeon is coming in at 1.30pm local time (@3 hours from now) and wants to see me as I didn't rouse well from the anaesthetic. The good thing is, for the first time ever (I've had several ops) following a general, I didn't throw up. Yayyyy

Running out of credit... will talk more later...

GET WELL SOON!

How's the liquid diet going? It must be pretty hard. I put on 1kg this week! I have upped my water consumption so I hope that's what it is.

Re: Journal of Junior's Journey

Well - all is going well. I lost another 1.5kg around the time of surgery but haven't lost anything since. That is fine because I am not expected to at this 'early post-op' stage. It's about taking liquids only, getting enough nutrition by doing so (anything that can be sucked up through is a straw is considered ok), and allowing everything to settle.

I feel a little better each day and today even went op-shopping with Mum! I needed black trousers for my son's formal ball on Friday night. Managed to get a pair that look brand new for just $10! I think I will go back to that op-shop when I start shrinking. It is HUGE!!

Withdrawal -wise all is fine. I haven't been doing much so haven't had much trouble sleeping. I've actually been taking Endone for pain at night and it has helped me to fall asleep. I won't do that for too long though because I don't want any more addictions! I'm not taking my naturopathic supplements at the moment - we agreed on just 2 for the time being - because I can't get them down my throat! I cut them in half and tried yesterday and one got stuck! For some reason it is swollen. Possibly because of my hernia repair. I should probably put them in the blender when I have my optifast shake in the morning...hmmmm.....

I'm going to do another drop in Paxil early next week

Re: Journal of Junior's Journey

SUCK IT UP JUNIOR!

Glad to hear all is going well. I am an op shop fan also. It started when I tried to buy a pink blouse. The shops only had black, white, orange and lime green. I have noticed they only get 2 main colours in each season (and pink is very rare). I have no trouble getting WHATEVER colour I want at op shops!

Has your son just finished year 10 or year 12? Have a good night on Fri.

Re: Journal of Junior's Journey

Thanks Rose.

Grandma, I can't suck it up - it will hurt ... oh, you mean the liquids

My son is 21 so he is past school age. You may remember me telling you at some point that he is autistic and intellectually disabled? Well, he goes to a day program and they have decided to have a formal ball. Jason loves to dance so I've paid for him to have some lessons. It should be fun

Went to see a dietician today. She said I'm on the right track and gave me some helpful tips for transitioning from liquids through mushies and back onto solid food.
